A runoff election appears likely in the race for Hutchinson County Sheriff.
According to unofficial results posted by the Hutchinson County Clerk's Office, Don Johnson received the highest number of votes in the race. He received 1,104 votes, equating to 40.77 percent of the vote.
Michael Lon “Mickey” Blackmon received 906 votes in the primary election, equating to 33.46 percent of the vote. Since neither candidate received 50 percent of the vote, the two will compete in a runoff election set for July 31, 2012.

Earlier this month, Will Paulsell, a 2011 Borger High School graduate, received second team All-American golf honors as a freshman at Garden City Community College in Kansas.
At the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Newton, Kan., Paulsell shot a 9-over 297 to finish in 10th place overall after tiebreakers.
Paulsell is the first golfer from Garden City CC to receive All-American honors since the school resurrected its golf program in May of 2011.
Mary K. Mullens, 82, of Fritch died Friday May 25th in Borger.
Funeral services were at 11:00 am Tuesday May 29, 2012, at First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch with Rev. Calvin Winters, pastor officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Serenity at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
The Borger Police Department is currently conducting an investigation regarding some fraudulent money orders.
On Friday, May 18, at approximately 4 p.m., a detective sergeant with the BPD’s Criminal Investigations Division received reliable information in reference to the location of numerous fraudulent United States Postal Service money orders, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD.
The division had been investigating these suspected money orders due to several already being passed at a local federal credit union.
During the Frank Phillips College May Board of Regents Meeting, FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks informed the Board of Regents that the college has been awarded a Round Six Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Grant in the amount of $140,534, which will be used to purchase equipment for the Pump & Engine (P&E) and Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Technology Programs.
Lusk receives T.E. Ward Award
Borger High School senior Max Lusk was selected as the 2011-12 recipient of the T.E. Ward Award.
Qualifications to be nominated for the award include being an outstanding senior male athlete, exemplify the highest moral character, behavior and leadership; regulate his actions at all times so that he will be a credit to the team, school, and community; and display good sportsmanship at all times by being modest in victory and gracious in defeat.
The Panhandle Team Penners Association (PTPA) is hosting a RSNC Ranch Sorting competition at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo Arena on Saturday, June 2nd.
Events will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with competition to take place in eight different classes, including youth class, all levels handicap, #13 HC, #10 HC, #10 HC Masters, #11 Rookie HC w/2 cap on sorter, #8 HC and #4 class.
Entry fees are $20 for the youth class, $25 for the #4 class, and $35 for the other divisions.
The Borger Police Department wants citizens to be aware of a recent telephone scam circulating in the Hutchinson County area, one that has already directly affected some residents.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said this telephone scam targets mainly the elderly population.
The scan begins with a telephone call to the victim, in which the caller identifies himself as a son or a grandson.
“The caller advises that they have either been in an accident or are stranded in Mexico and are in need of assistance,” he said.

Roger Dee Montrose Sr., 57, of Borger died Wednesday May 23, 2012, in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Tim Hall of Grace Church officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Roger was born May 31, 1954 in Borger to William F. Montrose and Cordia May Romine Montrose. He was a Borger resident most of his life.
SKELLYTOWN – William Franklin Moreland, 77, died May 23, 2012, in Borger, TX.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Skellytown, with Rev. Fines Marchman, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Mr. Moreland was born June 27, 1934 in Borger, where he attended school and graduated from Borger High School in 1952.
