Bulldogs defeat the Harvesters 9-7 in district action

PAMPA-Through two rounds of District 1-3A play, it is known which three teams are going to make it to the playoffs, but who will end up as the district champions is still up in the air.
After losing to the Pampa Harvesters 8-3 in the first round of district play, the Borger Bulldogs were able to get some revenge on Saturday by getting a 9-7 win at Harvester Field in Pampa.

Bulldogs athletes qualify for the regional track meet

Over the weekend, the Borger Bulldog Boy’s track team had several athletes qualify for the 3A Region I Track Meet by finishing in the top three in the District 1-3A meet in Pampa.
Taking first place in the district meet were Kolter Newton in the triple jump, Ty Brown in the 400m, and the 1600m relay team. Daniel Orona took second place in the shot put and the Borger 800m relay team qualified for regionals by finishing in third place. The Region I-3A meet will be held April 27-28 at Fuller Track and Field complex in Lubbock.

Lady Plainsmen split series with Western Texas

On Sunday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team took one step closer to making the Region V Tournament by getting the split with Western Texas College in WJCAC action.
In game one of the series, the Lady Plainsmen jumped out early by scoring nine runs in the first inning on their way to a 12-2 win. The big inning gave the Lady Plainsmen pitcher a big cushion to work with and the pitcher took advantage of it by giving up just two runs on four hits through five innings.

BISD board to cancel election

April 16, 2012

The Borger Independent School Board of Trustees will be taking action to cancel its upcoming election.
This action will be taken during the board’s regular meeting, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in the conference room of the BISD Administration Building, 200 East Ninth.
The board will be acting to certify the election, will consider an order canceling the election, and adopt a resolution for the cancellation of the trustee election.

Officials respond to unoccupied structure fire

April 16, 2012

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, an unoccupied house at 1311 Boyd was set to flames for a second time.
According to Fire Marshal Jerry Langwell, this wasn’t the first time the house was on fire.
“We are investigating it as suspicious nature. This house was on fire about a month ago,” Langwell said.
The second fire did complete damage to the structure, and it will have to be demolished.
Firefighters reached the scene at 10:10 p.m. and left at 1 a.m.
No injuries were reported.

Borger ISD issues statement regarding balloon incident

The Borger Independent School District has issued a statement regarding a balloon incident that occurred at Borger High School prior to spring break.
BISD Superintendent Chance Welch said that since the incident was originally reported, all leads have been thoroughly investigated.
“For the past three weeks, a crime stoppers award has been offered, which resulted in one tip,” he said. “No evidence has been obtained related to the original report.”
Welch said the investigation is ongoing.

FPC board to meet Monday

April 14, 2012

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents will take action on giving the college the permission to sell a 2006 Featherlite 53’ specialty, double slide-out semi-trailer and a 2001 Freight Liner, Century Class truck during their April board meeting.
The semi-trailer and truck were used as a mobile classroom unit by the college to provide training and classes away from the main campus.
The board will also take action on approving the sale of three properties owned by the college in Hutchinson County.

April 14, 2012

Carol Lynn Moon, 60, died April 11, 2012 in Borger.
Memorial services will be Monday, April 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Borger Missionary Baptist Church, with Bruce Riddling officiating.

Troy Laster

April 14, 2012

Troy Laster, 46, of Stinnett, passed away, Thursday, April 12, 2012.
Troy Dee Laster was born May 13, 1965 in Borger, TX to Jerry Laster and Gail (Davis) Ray. He was a stocker and meat cutter for Market Square in Stinnett, TX. Troy was a member of Safari Club International and North West Hunters Association. He was an avid hunter and expert marksman.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents.
