Early voting in local elections is underway!
Early voting for the election for Borger City Council will take place starting today through Friday, May 4 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and May 7-8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall in Borger. Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of business May 4, 2012. These ballots are to be mailed to City Secretary Stella Sauls.
Candidates for Borger City Council are William Adams and Brandy Callahan.
Eldean âDeanâ Bailey, 84, died Friday April 27 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be 2:00 Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Borger with Pastor Ricky Griffin of Trinity Fellowship officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Dean came to Borger in 1948 with her husband Norman Douglas âDougâ Bailey. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and she enjoyed her grandchildren and took every opportunity to âspoilâ them.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband Doug in 2000 and her son Mike in 1967.
The Borger Police Department and Crime Stoppers are still seeking answers when it comes a recent business burglary.
Photos have been released by Borger PD in hopes of finding the suspect involved in the burglary, which occurred on Sunday, April 15, 2012. That day at around 9:40 a.m., officers from Borger PD responded to China Dynasty at 1030 Megert Circle in reference to the incident.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department said that when officers began investigating the burglary, it was found the incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. that Sunday morning.
Brandy Callahan is seeking election to Borger City Council, Place One.
Callahan is a lifetime resident of Borger, except for the few years that she was away attending college.
âI chose to stay in Borger for several reasons,â she said. âFirst, all of my family lives here, second, itâs a great place to raise my children and establish roots, and third, Borger is a community with a lot of wonderful people. It is a community with the most caring and giving people I have ever met.â
Detectives with Borger Police Departmentâs Criminal Investigations Division went out on Wednesday, April 25, with intentions to find any illegal narcotics activity on the streets of Borger.
During their investigation they succeeded with not only one arrest, but three; Larry Clinton Turley, 40; Mark David Purcell II, 19; and Derek Duane Chisholm, 21, all of Borger.

Dr. Bill will be holding his annual vaccination clinic Friday and Saturday. The event will be held until 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The clinic is being held at the Fritch fire station. Rabies vaccinations are $12.50, Distemper, Parvo costs $15, and Feline Distemper costs $12.50.
Bruce Monroe Suit, 69, died Tuesday, April 24, in Borger.
Memorial services were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 27, at the Minton Memorial Chapel, with Jake Minton officiating.
Mr. Suit was born on April 1, 1943 to Fredrick and Hilda Suit in Cheverly, MD. He has been a resident of the area since 1960.
He was a roving Welder for Phillips Petroleum for 35 years. He was in the Air Force from 1961 to 1964.
Much loved and admired, Sharron Bell-Rogers left this world Saturday, April 21, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born May 6, 1945 in Borger, TX and was a graduate of Borger High School. Sharron was preceded in death by her grandparents as well as her parents: Sam Bell, Bess Eldredge, and M.T. Eldredge.
Sharron was an avid sports fan and she spent much time on the softball fields and volleyball courts in her youth. She loved the Rangers and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan; she could always be found in front of the television on game day.
PAMPA â Johnny Belt, 69, died April 26, 2012, in Pampa, TX.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 30, 2012, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Joel Osborne, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Belt was born November 16, 1942 in Kellyville, Oklahoma. He married Jane Elder on July 3, 1964 in Clayton, New Mexico. He worked and lived in Borger and Pampa for many years before permanently moving to Pampa in 1983.
The National Day of Prayer ceremony in Borger is less than a week away!
Charlotte Martin, who is coordinating the event, said the public is invited to attend the ceremony, set for 12 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Veteranâs Memorial in Huber Park.
