Coker dismissed as Fritch Police Chief

On Monday morning, Kirk Coker was dismissed as the Chief of Police for the City of Fritch.
Monte Leggett, Chief Administrator for the Fritch Police Department, confirmed on Monday afternoon that Coker was no longer with the Fritch Police Department.
As to the reasons behind Coker’s dismissal, Leggett said he was not able to comment on personnel issues but stated “the rest of the officers on the Fritch Police Department are committed to serving the city of Fritch now and going forward in the future.”

FRITCH - Beula Bell Nelson, 80, of Fritch, died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at her home in Fritch.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in the “Garden Of Hope” at Westlawn Memorial Park with Richard Kasko of the Fritch Church of Christ officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. Beula will lie in state Monday, April 9, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Elsie Owens Pickard

Elsie Owens Pickard, 87, of Borger, died April 5, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012, in Westlawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Les Sharp officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Elsie was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Roger Mills County, Okla., to Richard and Martha Hay. She moved to Borger in 1947 and was employed in the grocery business. Later, she and her husband, Joe Owens, owned the Mrs. Baird’s Thrift Store. After retirement, she lovingly volunteered for many years at the hospital.

Agnes Louise Stover, 90, of Borger, died Friday April 6, 2012 in Borger.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Library book sale just around the corner

The Friends of the Library book sale is just around the corner! On April 19-21, books of all kinds and jigsaw puzzles will be available at the Borger library for low prices.
Hours for the sale are 2-7 p.m. Thursday, April 19; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 20; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21. Prices are 50 cents for adult hardbacks, 25 cents for children’s hardbacks, and all paperbacks will be two for 25 cents. In addition, puzzles are 50 cents and gift books are only 25 cents each.

Animal control ordinance approved

An amended animal control ordinance for the City of Borger has been approved.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council approved the ordinance on final reading, along with a resolution establishing a schedule of fees, costs, charges, and expenses related to the ordinance.

Lady Plainsmen split series with Adams State JV

On Saturday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team split its two game series with Adams State JV in Colorado.
The Lady Plainsmen dropped the first game 11-3 but won the second game 13-5.
In game one, Frank Phillips College jumped out to an early lead, but was unable to hold on and lost 11-3. While Frank Phillips College led until the fifth inning, Adams State JV worked its way back and took the lead on an RBI single in the fifth inning.
In the second inning, Christine Blankenship hit a triple to bring in two RBIs.

FPC Plainsmen split series with El Paso CC

After splitting the first two games of the series on Friday, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and El Paso Community College finished their four game series at a draw by splitting the final two games on Saturday. The Plainsmen opened Saturday getting a 10-0 win but cooled off as El Paso took the final game of the series, 5-0.
In the first Saturday game, the Plainsmen scored two runs in the first inning. But it would be the fourth inning where the Plainsmen pulled away by scoring six runs on their way to forcing the 10-run rule after the fifth inning.
