BISD sets calendar for 2012-13

The Borger Independent School District has set its calendar for the 2012-13 school year.
The first day of school for Borger students will be August 27, 2012, and the final day will be May 31, 2013.
Students and staff will have the Labor Day holiday off on September 3, and the Thanksgiving holiday is set from Nov. 21-23, 2012. The Christmas holiday is set from Dec. 24-Jan. 2. President’s Day is Feb. 18 and spring break is set for March 11-15, 2013. A Memorial Day holiday will be observed on May 27.

High School Softball Playoff Series scheduled

The Borger Lady Bulldogs and Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles have scheduled their Bi-District Playoff Round series.
The Borger Lady Bulldogs will begin the 3A playoffs by taking on Lamesa in a best-of-three series in Littlefield.
Game one of the series will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28th with game two to follow. If a third game is necessary, it will take place on Monday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. in Luttlefield.

Muriel Leslie Turner

Muriel Leslie Turner, 88, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Borger.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Highland Park Cemetery with Rev. Bill Ratchford, Cross Community Church of God, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.

Answers sought in business burglary

The Borger Police Department and Crime Stoppers are seeking the assistance of the public pertaining to the recent burglary of a business.
On the morning of Sunday, April 15, 2012, at around 9:40 a.m., officers from Borger PD responded to 1030 Megert Circle in reference to a business burglary.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department said that when officers began investigating the burglary, it was found the incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. that Sunday morning.

Comanches clinch post season berth with win over Claude

West Texas High had two games left on their District schedule on Saturday and they needed just one win out of the two for a playoff spot. They did it, at Claude, in a close one 8-7. The Tribe did an exceptional job defensively, with a double play, and individual effort by all to just keep the ball in front of them. Jess Shields got the win, pitching 5.2 innings, and Carlos Juarez threw the last 1.1 innings. Shields struck out 2 and walked 4, Juarez struck out 2 and walked none.
