Borger Chamber of Commerce welcomes Global Frontline Solutions

On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome new member Global Frontline Solutions. Global Frontline Solutions held an open house to celebrate the opening of its offices inside the Borger EDC building at 1111 Penn Avenue. During the open house the company showed off the equipment it uses and employees took time to meet with people in the community and share what the company is about. Global Frontline Solutions has worked throughout the United States providing a full line of services related to land and fire management.

Dr. Frank Brown

Dr. Frank Brown, 91, of Borger, passed away March 19, 2012.
Dr. Frank Foster Brown was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Mineral Wells, TX, to Alma Hitt and Ethel Mae (Yow) Brown. He married Mary Faith Oakes in Borger, TX, on Feb. 9, 1969.
Dr. Brown served in the Air Force May 1942. He was honorably discharged shortly after the war was over. He flew as a right waist gunner for 30 missions over France. He went to school in Chicago and became an optometrist and worked in Borger and Spearman from 1950 until June 1996.
He loved Sugar his beloved dog and Callie the marvelous calico cat.

Get prepared for severe weather season

Next week Borger residents will experience 80 degree temperatures outdoors, meaning spring is officially here.
However, this also means it is the time of the year for tornadoes and possibly floods.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards said tornadoes and severe weather usually begin late March and end around July 4. Several situations the Panhandle sees are hail, flooding, high winds, lightning, and tornadoes, which are by far the most dangerous.
Around 1992 Fritch was hit by a F5 Tornado, completely destroying 525 homes and severely damaging 900. Luckily, no one was killed.

Fritch chamber banquet set for Saturday

The Fritch Area Chamber of Commerce banquet is set for this Saturday.
Tickets are still available for the banquet, which will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Sanford-Fritch Junior High Cafeteria. The deadline to purchase tickets is tomorrow.
The banquet will be catered by Tio Pancho’s Restaurant in Fritch. Tickets for the event are $11 for adults and $6 for children ages five and under. The menu will include beef and chicken fajitas, all the trimmings, drink, and dessert.

FPC cancels election

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents accepted a resolution canceling the 2012 election.
This year, the Board of Regents had three full, six year at-large terms and one four-year, unexpired Spring Creek term up for re-election. As of Monday, March 5th, the last day for applications to be filed to be placed on the ballot, applications were received from Jay Campbell, Dr. Shad Goldston, and Sandra Hilbert for the at-large positions and from Tonya Moore for the Spring Creek position. All four currently serve on the board.
