Aubrey Earl “Pete” Yarbrough

Canadian – Aubrey Earl “Pete” Yarbrough, 70, died Saturday, February 18 in Canadian. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger with Pastor Tim Hall, Associate Pastor of Grace Church officiating. Interment will follow at Stinnett Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Pete had lived in the Canadian area for the past 45 years and was a Driller in the Oil Field.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Raymond and his sister Carolyn White.

Council to act on sewer project

The Borger City Council will be acting on a sewer project at its upcoming meeting.
The meeting is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will consider and take appropriate action to award a bid for the Third Street Sanitary Sewer Project. Information on this project will be presented by Scott Honeyfield of Parkhill, Smith, and Cooper.

Boomtown Theater performers prep for latest production

Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen in hoop doubleheader tonight

Tonight the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen will hit the basketball court at the BCAC for a doubleheader. The Lady Plainsmen will host Clarendon College at 5:30 p.m. The Plainsmen will host NMMI in WJCAC action at 7:30 p.m.

Borger Bulldogs open 2012 season tomorrow against Dumas

Tomorrow afternoon, the Borger Bulldogs officially begin the 2012 baseball season by hosting the Dumas Demons beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Huber Park.
The Bulldogs enter the season coming off an impressive 2011 campaign, where the team won the District 1-3A title and advanced to the Regional-Quarterfinals where they fell to Lubbock Cooper.
The Bulldogs lost several big bats and pitching arms from last year’s team, but the cupboard is not bare for Bulldog Head Coach Steve Ribera, who is entering his second year as the team’s head coach.

Western Nebraska wins series over Frank Phillips College

On Sunday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen hosted Western Nebraska Community College in a non-conference doubleheader.
Western Nebraska left Borger winning both games 12-5 and 11-4, to drop the Lady Plainsmen to 1-7 and the team will next travel to Tishomingo, Okla., this weekend to take part in a tournament.

FPC freshman Lucinda Ponce had a good game at the plate hitting a homerun in the second inning and racking up three RBI’s.
But Western Nebraska used a 12 run third inning to pull away for the win.

FPC Board of Regents to meet on Monday

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents will hold its regularly scheduled February meeting. Items on the agenda the board will take action on include: Order and Notice for the General Election and Joint Election Order, State Employees Charitable Campaign, refinancing of 2001 bonds, and accepting of gifts and donations. Also during the meeting, the board will be provided information about the 2012 enrollment numbers and hear reports from the the college President, Vice-Presidents and Deans, and board members. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

County candidates forum set for March 6

Election season is in full swing, and citizens will soon have the opportunity to hear from the candidates running for county office.
The Hutchinson County Republican Women are inviting the public to the Republican Candidates forum on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Dake’s Restaurant, 718 North Main, in Borger. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The candidates will have an opportunity to speak with a question/answer period to follow. A reception will be provided at 6:30 p.m. and the forum starts at 7 p.m.
