Voter registration cards delayed

February 28, 2012

Due to ongoing redistricting litigation, the mailing of new voter registrations has been delayed.
In the absence of approved interim redistricting maps, county voter registration officials in many officials cannot finalize electoral precincts for the purpose of conducting elections.
All previously-issued voter registration certificates expired on Dec. 31, 2011, but only the cards have expired. Voter registrations do remain valid. Voters, who are currently registered, but:

Lady Comanches top Lady Eagles 12-6

On Monday afternoon, the West Texas High Lady Comanches got the 12-6 win over the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles in non-district softball action.
In the top of the second inning, the Lady Eagles put the first run on the scoreboard. But the Lady Comanches responded by scoring four runs in the second and two runs in the third inning to build a 6-1 lead.
The Lady Eagles tried to rally by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
But the Lady Comanches stayed in control of the game by adding six more runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the win.

Comanches take win over Clarendon in baseball

The West Texas Comanches were back home yesterday to host the Clarendon Broncos on the diamond. The Tribe is trying for their third straight playoff appearance this year. The team picked up a 13-4 win over the Clarendon Broncos. Senior Carlos Juarez got the win, throwing four innings. Juarez allowed four runs, on three hits, just one run was earned. He had six strike outs and walked only one batter. Jess Shields closed the game, pitching the final three innings. Shields did a nice job for the Comanches, allowing no runs, and only one hit. He struck out seven batters and zero walks.

Charles Lantelme

Charles Lantelme, 85, of Stinnett, passed away, Saturday, February 25, 2012.
Charles Lantleme was born February 10, 1927 in Ellis County, OK to Carl George and Mae Mary (Peetoom) Lantelme. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II. He was a chemist at Phillips Petroleum for 37 years. After retiring he was involved with ranching beginning in 1989. Mr. Lantelme was a lifetime member of the Stinnett Church of Christ. Charles Lantelme married Evelyn Wayland on August 29, 1954 in Arnett, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Christa Newman heading to state pageant

Even though Christa Newman passed her Miss Tri-City crown to Holly Jones Saturday night, her pageant adventure has only begun!
At the Miss Tri-City pageant festivities, Newman was awarded the title of Miss Texas Panhandle 2012. She will be competing this July in the Miss Texas America Pageant.
Newman, who is 18 years old and a 2011 graduate of Sanford-Fritch High School, is the daughter of David and Mickey Newman and has one brother Jacob Aaron.

Sentencing date set for Amy Fernandez

A sentencing date has been set for Amy Fernandez.
Ordered by Judge Mary Lou Robinson, on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, Fernandez’s sentencing date is set for Wednesday, Feb.29, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the U.S. Courthouse, 2nd Floor Courtroom, 205 E. 5th St., Amarillo, TX before Judge Robinson.

Bulldogs host Hereford tonight

Tonight the Borger Bulldogs (1-3) will host the Hereford Whitefaces in non-district baseball action beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Huber Park.
In the first week of the 2012 season, the Bulldogs showed the ability to put the ball in play and score runs from the plate. But the team experienced some growing pains on the pitcher’s mound and on defense in their losses to Dumas, Amarillo Palo Duro, and Bushland.

Midland College tops the Lady Plainsmen 87-64

On Monday evening, the No. 18-ranked Midland College women’s basketball team scored 55 points in the second half to pull away for an 87-64 victory over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen at the BCAC.
The game was the final home game in a Lady Plainsmen uniform for seven sophomores.
The Lady Plainsmen started the game strong to play to a 32-32 tie at halftime.
The Lady Plainsmen had the hot hand from the outside where they hit 14 3-pointers in the game.

Midland College beat the Plainsmen 82-81

When people look at the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen’s record after the season, the win-loss column isn’t going to tell the story of how the team has suffered three heartbreaking losses at home in WJCAC play. First to Odessa College, then New Mexico Junior College and to Midland College last night.
After leading by one at halftime and up 81-79 with 30 seconds to play. The Plainsmen came out on the losing end in their WJCAC game with Midland College 82-81.

The Lady Eagle volleyball team will head to River Road for a district matchup with the Lady...
The Lady Comanches will be back in action Tuesday night against Miami at West Texas High School....
