On Friday night, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles matched up well against a quick, athletic Amarillo Highland Park Hornets team. The Hornets are a fast paced, no structure team that loves to run the court and Sanford-Fritch stayed right with them for the entire night.
Despite some interesting officiating, Sanford-Fritch showed some moments of good basketball.
Highland Park started off on quick run, capitalizing on every turnover. Coach Simmons finally used a timeout to stop Highland Park momentum with only 1:40 left and a 16-8 score in first quarter.
The West Texas Lady Comanches were still looking for their first District win last night as they hosted the Lady Elks from Stratford. They put up a good fight, but they finished the first half of District without a win, falling to Stratford 29-25 in a low scoring contest.
Neither team started the game strong as the first quarter ended with both teams posting 4 points.
On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles travelled to Amarillo to play Highland Park Lady Hornets.
The same Lady Eagle team that has been playing these past weeks didn’t show on this bus. The Lady Eagles found themselves playing the same type game and tempo as the Lady Hornets. Too many turnovers and missed shots would have cost them the game against any other team.
At the end first quarter, the Lady Eagles were ahead only by the score 11-8.
On Friday night, the Borger Bulldogs improved to 1-1 in District 1-3A play by knocking off their rival the Pampa Harvesters 50-45 in overtime at Tex Hanna Gym during “Pink Out” night.
The game had everything a fan on both sides of the gym could ask for in a rival game, including seven ties and seven lead changes, as both teams came out playing hard in order to crack the district win column.
On Friday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs came out and proved they are a lot better team than the one that fell to the Pampa Lady Harvesters in the District 1-3A opener by 48 points on January 10th.
Unfortunately, the Lady Harvesters left Tex Hanna Gym with their second win over the Lady Bulldogs in district play, due to a steal and a quick basket in the final three seconds to give Pampa the 40-38 win.
The Lady Bulldogs had a solid night shooting from the floor hitting 16/31 shots and did a solid job defensively led by sophomore McKenzie Loftis who had seven steals in the game.
The AEV 18’s Borger Boom volleyball team won the gold bracket championship at the AEV January Jam held January 14th at The Courts Of Amarillo.

Tonight bragging rights and climbing up the District 1-3A standings will be on the line when the Pampa Harvesters and Lady Harvesters visit Tex Hanna Gym to take on the Borger Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs.
Tonight’s games are part of the Borger High School Basketball program’s “Pink Out” Night raising money for HOPE for Cancer Awareness.
Free t-shirts will be handed out at the door while supplies last, and donations will be taken for HOPE for Cancer Awareness. During the games, sausage wraps will be served by the Borger Basketball Booster Club in the concession stand.

A recent drug bust in Fritch was one of the main subjects of the city’s council meeting this week.
Chief Kirk Coker of the Fritch Police Department spoke about the drug bust on Hoyne last weekend. Upon arriving at the house police officers found meth, glass beakers, tubbing lithium, bloody needles, needle backs soaking in bleach water to be re-used, meth pipes, crack pipes, and marijuana pipes in site throughout the house, and a room full of pornography and other movies (there was no evidence of children there, but there was a classic pedophile type scenario evident.)
