El Zarape spices up Borger

You don't have to travel far to get quality, authentic Mexican food and top-notch service. There is a great little restaurant that is new to Borger and sure to please your taste buds.
El Zarape Mexican Food and Tortilla Factory opened their doors in October of this year. Owners are brothers Jorge and Erick Alderete, and many other family members log hours to keep the business up and running smoothly.
Yolanda Varela is one of those family members, saying, “I am helping out when I can. I have to help these boys get organized!”

Charles Leon Jett

December 21, 2012

Charles Leon Jett passed away Dec. 18, in Rockport, Texas, at the age of 78. He was born on Jan. 8, 1934, to Joe P. and Nettie Jett in Chilicothe, Texas.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Nettie Jett, brother Bill Jett, and brother Richard Jett.

Bonita Sue “GiGi” Sargent

Bonita Sue “GiGi” Sargent, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in Borger.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe, of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Bonita was born on Oct. 22, 1947, to William and Rachel Francis in Pontiac, Mich. She is a member of Bible Baptist Church. She loved to bake, watch Court TV, flower beds, and her grandchildren. She loved her Makayla Bug.

Holiday patrols will be stepped up

During the holiday season, DPS and local law enforcement want to make sure the roads are safe by increasing patrols from December 21 through January 1, which includes both the Christmas and New Year holidays.
DPS troopers and Borger PD will focus mostly on DWI patrols in areas where alcohol-related crashes are most frequent. The enhanced patrols that target intoxicated drivers are funded through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.

City to purchase new water slide

December 21, 2012

Even though a winter chill is in the air, the City of Borger is already making plans for the upcoming summer.
During its regular meeting on Tuesday, the Borger City Council took action to purchase a multi-flume water slide for the Johnson Park Youth Center Swimming Pool from Natural Structures in the amount of $180,115.
