Corina Leal Piedra, 69, of Borger, died Friday, January 27, 2012 in Borger.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the First United Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Gustavo Hernandez, of La Roca Apostolica church officiating. Interment will follow in the â€śEvergreenâ€ť garden at Westlawn Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Randolph â€śRandyâ€ť Wallace, 56, of Borger, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012.
Randy was born Tuesday, June 7, 1955, in Lincoln, Neb., to Ronald and Ruby (Dearman) Wallace. He was a truck driver.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Earnest and Edith Wallace and G.W. And Effie Clark; his father Ronald Wallace; and two stepfathers, Sam McGill and Bill Mayes.
Survivors include his mother Ruby Mayes of Borger, TX; two brothers, Phil Wallace and wife Lisa of Borger, TX and Gene Wallace and wife Juanita of Borger, TX; and one sister, Janet Lewis and husband Keith of Fritch, TX.
It was a busy weekend for the youth participating in the Hutchinson County Junior Livestock Show. The sale to conclude the weekendâ€™s events took place Saturday evening at Graced Land East. Among those having his animals auctioned was Jess Shields, pictured, who took Grand Champion honors in the hog and steer categories.
As a reminder for those wanting to save a life, the Coffee Memorial Blood Center will hold a blood drive February 6, 2012 at Frank Phillips College from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Access and Innovation Building Conference Center room at 901 S. Opal.
A photo ID or donor card is required to donate, and donors must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible to give blood. All blood types are needed.
All eligible donors who present to donate will receive a free t-shirt in appreciation for giving the gift of life.
Tonight the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen will host the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds and Lady Thunderbirds in a WJCAC doubleheader at the BCAC.
The womenâ€™s game will tip off at 5:45 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
Over the past five years, the Plainsmen vs T-Birds matchup has provided some of the most entertaining WJCAC games of the season, with the Plainsmen winning both games in conference play in 2009-10 and the T-Birds winning both games last season.
On Friday, former longtime Borger High School Boys Basketball Head Coach Duane Hunt was selected to be among the 2012 class entering the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Hunt spent 23 seasons coaching the Bulldogs where he had a 507-206 record, which included two state runner-up finishes in the late 1970â€™s. During his 26-year coaching career he took three teams to the state tournament and had a 548-236 overall record.
Hunt graduated from Oklahoma City University where he played for Coach Abe Lemons.
On Saturday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen baseball team won the final two games in their four game series with Luna Community College, 15-5 and 7-6.
In game one on Saturday, Luna appeared to be on their way to getting the win by holding a 5-0 lead through four innings. But in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Plainsmen bats came alive to bring in 14 runs, leading to the team getting the run-rule win after six innings.
Plainsmen sophomore infielder Cesar Wong had a big game, hitting two doubles and collecting six RBIâ€™s.
