January 28, 2012

The time is drawing closer for a significant milestone for one of the most familiar faces at the Borger News-Herald!
Don Rice will be celebrating 50 years as the photographer for the BNH this March, coming to the paper in 1962.
In his honor, the BNH is doing a special section featuring some of his most prominent photos from the decades he has been on staff here.
However, the BNH plans to take it one step further, and this will require help from you!

Rangers pull away from Bulldogs, 76-49

January 28, 2012

On Friday evening, the Perryton Rangers improved to 3-1 in District 1-3A play by defeating the Borger Bulldogs 76-49 in Perryton.
Over the years, Perryton seems to be one place in the Texas Panhandle where it feels like the home team really does benefit from having home field advantage in a contest Some can argue that was the case again Friday night, as the Rangers were able to get to the foul line 37 times compared to the Bulldogs 10 free throw attempts.

Comanches fall to Booker in Battle of the Tribes

January 28, 2012

The West Texas Comanches have lost their last two games at the free throw line. The last game was lack of visits to the line vs many for the other team, and last night was close to being a rerun. The game was close from the tip off with fourteen lead changes and the score was tied four times. In the fourth quarter, the Comanches were trailing by two, when several “missed calls” by the officials and a technical foul on WT’s coach for voicing his opinion about the accuracy of the calls. After the “T”, the team was forced to foul to stop the clock.

On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles took one step closer to clinching a playoff berth by beating the Amarillo River Road Lady Wildcats 53-43 in Amarillo.
The Lady Wildcats started the game tough in the first period by playing to a 13-13 tie with Sanford-Fritch.
But the Lady Eagles got some separation in the second period and forced River Road to play catch up the remainder of the game.

Short-handed Lady Comanches fall to Booker in District 1-1A play

January 28, 2012

In spite of having only six players to start the game, and ending with just foUr on the floor, the Lady Comanches put up a valiant effort in a losing battle to Booker 47-26. The rest of the team was either hurt or at the County LIve Stock Show last night. Two of the girls fouled out in the last 10 seconds of the game, leaving four players on the floor. The girls were exhausted the fourth quarter and I give kudos to Sarah Kelly, Katelyn Wilson, Madison Heston, Alyssa Snider, Abby Summers, and Devin DeLapp for their heart.
