City council to meet Tuesday

January 16, 2012

The Borger City Council is set to meet this Tuesday.
The council will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Action will be taken to amend the water pricing agreements of the following companies:
a) Sid Richardson Carbon Company – Amendment #7
b) Degussa Engineered Carbons – Amendment #3

Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs hosting “Pink Out” games on Friday, January 20th

On Friday, January 20th the Borger Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs basketball teams will be hosting a “Pink Out” for HOPE for Cancer Awareness during their doubleheader against Pampa.
Free t-shirts will be handed out at the door, while supplies last, and donations will be taken for HOPE for Cancer Awaremess.
During both games, sausage wraps will be served by the Borger Basketball Booster Club in the concession stand.
The girls and boys junior varsity games tip off at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. followed by the varsity boys at 8:00 p.m.

James Walter Landers, Jr.

James Walter Landers Jr., 85, died Thursday, January 12, 2012, in Borger.
No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
James was born April 2, 1926 in Quanah, Texas to Walter and Verdie Landers. He was one of eight children. Three brothers; Cleston, Horace, Billy Jack Landers; three sisters; Clella Mae Meadows, Josephine Purcell, and Patricia Waldrip, all preceded him in death. His remaining sister Doris Ferguson now resides at the Buffalo Prairie Care Center in Buffalo Missouri.

PANHANDLE - Sandra Kay Rogers, 65, of Panhandle, died Friday, January 13, 2012 in Panhandle.
No services are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Sandra was born November 20, 1946, in Webb City, Missouri to Leroy L. and Della J. Moad. She married Kenneth Rogers, May 24, 1974 in Hawthorne, Nevada. Sandra was a Jehovah’s Witness, and worked at the Hutchinson, and Carson County Sheriff’s department from 1981 to 1997, where she made Captain. She loved sewing for her grandkids, painting, and gardening.

Borger PD continues crackdown on narcotics

The Borger Police Department is continuing its aggressive enforcement campaign pertaining to targeting illegal narcotics and other problem areas within the city.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD, the latest efforts in this aggressive enforcement campaign, which is being conducted by the department’s criminal investigations division, has already resulted in the arrest of four local residents for possession of illegal narcotics.

VFW makes donation on behalf of Hutchinson County Junior Livestock Show

January 16, 2012

VFW Post 1789 recently made a donation on behalf of the Hutchinson County Junior Livestock Association for its upcoming stock show. Present for the giving of the donation were Ron Marshall and Joe Childress of the VFW, Sarah Ratliff, sales committee chair for the association; stock show participants Jess Shields, Fletcher Moneymaker, Megan Prall, Ashby McWilliams, and Leah Stroud; Robert Malone, VFW Quartermaster, and Donald Depew of the VFW.

Borger ISD board meeting Tuesday

January 16, 2012

The Borger ISD board of trustees will be meeting Tuesday evening.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in the board room of the BISD administration building, 200 East Ninth.
The board will administer the oath of office to new board member Bill Myers, who will be filling the spot recently vacated by longtime member Johnny Rusten. A public hearing will also be held on the AEIS report for 2010-11.
Campus and district reports will be given on Borger Middle School, Crockett Elementary School, and Paul Belton Early Childhood Center.

Lady Plainsmen ready to open conference play against Odessa College

January 16, 2012

Tonight the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen (5-10) get WJCAC play underway hosting the Odessa College Lady Wranglers (11-5) starting at 5:45 p.m. at the BCAC.
The Lady Plainsmen enter tonight’s contest surviving a tough non-conference schedule, which included road games with three top 20 teams and games with solid teams from Cochise College and Howard College.

Plainsmen plan to make some noise in WJCAC play

Tonight the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (8-8) will put a three game winning streak and an undefeated record in the BCAC this season on the line, when they host the #10 Odessa College Wranglers (15-1) in both teams’ WJCAC Conference opener beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Thanks to the mixture of a new coaching staff and 12 new faces on the team, the Plainsmen were forced to start the season learning how to play together in the early part of their non-schedule.
