The Borger City Council is set to meet this Tuesday.
The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will act on a request from CVS Pharmacy for a variance to the distance requirements of an off-premise alcoholic beverage sales permit for beer and wine.
In other business, the council will act on expenditures for the last half of December 2011, and the minutes of the regular meeting of Dec. 20, 2011.
Another person involved in the recent drug bust surrounding the Fernandez family has entered a guilty plea.
According to court records, Thomas Salazar pleaded guilty to one count of cocaine possession with intent to distribute. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He is charged with knowingly and intentionally possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and/or five kilograms or more of cocaine in the Randall, Potter, and Hutchinson County areas.
Over the past couple of days, the Borger Bulldog and Lady Bulldog varsity basketball teams were busy taking part in tournament play in Lubbock and Breckenridge.
Neither teams came home with tournament titles, but both were able to get into the win column and show improvement in various areas which will help both teams with district play starting in the next couple of weeks.
After beating Sands on Wednesday, the Bulldogs finished the FiberMax Caprock Tournament in Lubbock with a 2-2 record with a win over Levelland and loses to Dimmitt and Tulia.
On Thursday afternoon, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles had no problems with the Hedley Lady Owls winning 70-37 at Sanford-Fritch High School.
Lady Eagles sophomore Mikala Setliff had a big game scoring 28 points to lead the team.
Summer Tubbs added 12 points, Christa White 10, and Mariah Cumings had nine points in the game.
Betty Vern Allen Anderson, age 75, of Castroville, raised in Borger, TX and a long time resident of Burleson, TX, passed away Dec. 29, 2011. Betty was born Oct. 31, 1936 in Hollis, OK to the late Willard and Opal Castleman Reeves. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, James Reeves, and Willard Reeves, Jr; sister, Michelle Rodriguez.
Robert â€śBobâ€ť Patak, 78, of Borger, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Amarillo.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Fairlanes Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Burwash officiating. Interment will follow in the Field of Honor at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Mabel Amanda Riethmeyer Rummel, 95 of Dumas, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at St. Johnâ€™s Lutheran Church in Dumas. Rev. Don Poole, pastor of the church will be officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
FRITCH - Genevieve Summers Burt, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Fritch Church of Christ with Mr. Richard Kasko, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in the â€śGarden Of Devotionâ€ť at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Terry Larson, 51, of Borger, passed away, Wednesday, December 28, 2011.
Terry Lynn (Garrard) Larson was born Thursday, October 13, 1960 in Borger, TX to Johnny and Rowena (Mayberry) Garrard. She was a restaurant cook.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian Larson Jr.; two sisters; Jessie Ratliff and Leanna Hooks and brother, Johnny Garrard.
