Panhandle Panthers slip past the Borger Bulldogs 30-29

PANHANDLE-Perhaps due to the cold weather, on Tuesday night the Borger Bulldogs and Panhandle Panthers both struggled offensively and combined for 51 turnovers in Panther Gym in Panhandle.
Despite the turnovers and shooting woes, the Bulldogs were in a position to win the game by holding a 29-28 lead with 40 seconds to go.
Unfortunately, the Panthers got the breaks they needed in the final seconds to score the go ahead basket with four seconds on the clock in their 30-29 win.

Lady Bulldogs fall to Panhandle, 64-26

PANHANDLE-On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs struggled to get their offense going in their 64-26 loss to the Panhandle Pantherettes.
The Lady Bulldogs shot just 26% against Panhandle and couldn’t make up for it on the boards with Panhandle doing a solid job boxing out for rebounds the whole game.
A pass from McKenzie Loftis to Emma Wood put the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard early. However, Panhandle opened the first period by going on a 17-2 run.

Don Conner, 84, died Monday, December 5, 2011, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, OK with Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Finishing touches being put on Subway

The finishing touches are being put on Borger’s new Subway restaurant.
Frank Wingate, one of the operating partners of Subway, said they are in the final days of finishing the new location of the Subway of Borger.
However, there a few things that still need to be completed prior to its opening.
“It’s looking good, but we still have a list of things to get done to be ready for everyone to once again eat at the store,” he said.

Comanches take first place in Miami Tourney

The West Texas Comanches took their hoop action to the Miami Tournament this past weekend. The Tribe faced five different teams and got five wins to bring home the Championship Trophy. The Comanches improve to 9-1 on the year.
The Comanches faced the Kress Kangaroos in their opening game. It was a barn burner. They were down by four points with less than a minute to play and Chase Elliott hit a huge three and Carlos Juarez sank two free throws to squeak out a win, 70-67. Alex Ramirez led in scoring with 21 points.

Bulldogs finish in third place in River Road Tournament

On Saturday afternoon, the Borger Bulldogs finished the Amarillo River Road Tournament by taking third place with a 52-51 win over Boys Ranch.
Through three periods on Friday afternoon, the Bulldogs appeared to be heading to a District 1-3A showdown for the tournament title with Pampa.
However, an injury to junior Jamon Hearon and cold shooting in the fourth period allowed Clarendon to comeback and upset the Bulldogs and send them to the third place game.

Plainsmen drop two on Colorado road trip

Over the weekend, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen fell to Otero Junior College and Lamar Community College during their two day road trip into Colorado.
On Friday evening, Otero stayed undefeated for the season by defeat the Plainsmen 67-54.
Top scorers for the Plainsmen were Akeem Johnson 15 points and 9 rebounds, Taquan Mcdew 10 , and Ronald Scott 9.
On Saturday, Lamar escaped from the court with a one point 64-63 win.
Top scorers were McDew 16, Montero Rice 13, and Johnson 10.

Christmas parade is tonight

The Christmas parade sponsored by the Borger Chamber of Commerce is this evening at 6:30 p.m.
The parade route will remain the same, originating on Grand and Main and moving north to Sixth and Main.
Anyone with any questions on the Christmas parade can call the chamber offices at 274-2211.

Suspicious death under investigation

The Carson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death reported in Fritch.
The Fritch Police Department and Fritch EMS were first to arrive at 418 Boyd, the home of 57 year-old Larry Ewing King at 4:04 p.m. Friday following a 9-1-1 call from a relative to King.
Officers found King dead in a bedroom at the residence. Justice of the Peace Jean Hardman pronounced King dead at the scene around 5:32 p.m.
