Fritch Chamber banquet set for April 2

The annual Fritch Chamber of Commerce banquet is coming up in less than two weeks!
The banquet will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Sanford-Fritch Junior High Cafeteria on Eagle Boulevard.
The 2011 Man and Woman of the Year will be announced and honored during the banquet.
Woman of the Year nominees includes Jessica Grishem, Jady Glosson, Kathy Harrah, Kathy Harris, Jeanie Henson, Tara Huff, Renee Laney, Carolyn Mathews, Sara Ledford, Jeannie Olson, Vicki Wilson, May Wright, and Melanie Wyble.

Hataway speaks to Lions about Borger Community Initiative

A local citizen is doing her part to see that children who need a meal during the summer months will have that opportunity.
Last Wednesday Jennifer Hataway spoke before the Borger Noon Lions Club about a potential summer feeding program.
She has been a part of the Borger community for six years and is a pediatric physical therapist. Her husband Jayson was the vice principal for Borger Middle School for two years and is now the principal at Crockett Elementary.

ConocoPhillips donation will help with FPC Science Lab renovations

Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents accepted an unrestricted gift of $35,000 from ConocoPhillips that will used for the equipping and renovations scheduled to take place this summer in the FPC Science Laboratory.
The donation by ConocoPhillips joins $50,000 donations by United Supermarkets and the Amarillo Area Foundation that will cover the $130,000 it will cost to renovate the science lab.

Funeral services for Jerry Thomas McClure, 79, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the 1st Southern Baptist Church in Fritch with Rev. Justin Unwin, Pastor of the 1st Assembly of God in Fritch and Rev. Darrell Trout Pastor of Harvest Time Church in Midland officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.

Maxine Sells

Maxine Sells, 87, died Friday, March 18, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ at Borger with Mr. Richard Kasko, minister of the Fritch Church of Christ, officiating and Mr. Wes Balentine, eulogist. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Burroughs Aull

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Burroughs Aull began her eternal life on Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Lubbock, Texas. Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors. Dr. Winfred Moore will officiate.

Evelyn Barclay, 91, of Borger, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Childers Place in Amarillo.
Viewing will be at Brown Funeral, and Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Christian Fellowship with the Pastor Tim Bernard officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery.
Evelyn was born Sept. 15, 1919 in Forestburg, to Clarence and Dovie Reeves.

John C. “Tuffy” Lanham

John C. “Tuffy” Lanham, 80, of Dumas, passed away, Thursday, March 17, 2011.
John Calvin Lanham was born Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1931, in Beckham County, Okla., to Nolan and Gladys (Griffin) Lanham. He married Ernestine Groves on Oct. 31, 1952, in Borger. “Tuffy” worked as a maintenance supervisor for Phillips Petroleum.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Barbara DeMoss; and great-grandson Aaron Patrick Saiz.

Former Borger mayor passes away

A former mayor of Borger passed away last Thursday.
Jerry Thomas McClure served eight years on the Borger City Council from 1970 to 1980, and served two terms as the Mayor of Borger.
During his time in the service of Borger, he served three years on the board of the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission and one year on the Governor’s Board of Directors under Governor Bill Clements.
He was a Borger Jaycee, a boxing coach for three years, served Meals on Wheels and was a deacon in the Fritch Assembly of God Church.

Fire crews respond to call on Wilson Street Sunday

Yesterday a fire broke out in an unoccupied home in the 300 block of Wilson St. Chief Bob Watson of the Borger Fire Department stated that they received the call at 12:39 p.m. and the scene was clear at 2:56 p.m. He also said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation and that there was no one hurt during the fire, just that the back of the house had some significant damage to it.
