Back in June, 31 local youth bowlers traveled to Dallas to take part in the state bowling tournament. Several of the bowlers made great showings including five taking first place in their divisions.

It is time for the Borger youth league to start up again. Sign ups will take place on September 10th from 10:00 a.m.-noon at Wildcatters and the league will start on September 17th at 10:00 a.m.
On Saturday, the 2011 high school and middle school cross country season got underway at Bulldog Stadium with nearly 600 runners taking part in the Borger Invitational.
Over the weekend, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen improved to 6-2 on the season after posting a 3-1 record at the Redlands CC Volleyball Tournament in El Reno, Okla.
On Friday, the Lady Plainsmen opened the tournament defeating Oklahoma Baptist University JV in straight sets 25-16, 26-24, 25-22. In their final match on Friday, the Lady Plainsmen fell to Seminole State 12-25, 22-25, 22-25.
The Borger City Council is set to hear the 2011-12 budget at its upcoming meeting.
The budget will be presented during the council’s regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will conduct a public hearing to allow for citizen comment on the proposed FY 2011-12 budget and consider the introduction of an ordinance making appropriations in support of the general operation of the City of Borger for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2011.
Just as West Texas Comanche football fans were celebrating a 48-0 halftime lead, they were also reminded of how dangerous the game of football really is. Shamrock quarterback, Tyler Whiteley was airlifted from the field after being knocked unconscious just before the half. Reports from friends after the game say he has a concussion but should recover. Both teams were a little flat after the half.
SUNRAY-On Friday night, the Sunray Bobcats used three second half touchdowns to pull away for the 47-24 win over the Sanford-Fritch Eagles.
After a Colton Valle touchdown run for the Eagles at the 8:55 mark of the third quarter, the Eagles offense struggled to get much going into the second half, while the Bobcats’ running game controlled the clock.
Bobcats’ senior quarterback Talon Dooley had a big night connecting 11 of 18 passed for one touchdown and rushing for 141 yards that included a 98 yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Blanche M. Miller, 100, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Park Place Towers Parlor with Jerry Bell officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Nathan Mattox officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Leah Jeanne (Caulkins) Buckland, 86, of Borger, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of Thursday, September 1, 2011.
The work on Borger’s new Subway is continuing to progress.
Frank Wingate, one of the operating partners of the restaurant, said all of the concrete work was finished as of Aug. 31.
The new location is being constructed on the corner of Opal and West Wilson, directly in front of the Holiday Inn Express.
468 cubic yards of concrete, 6.25 miles of rebar, and a total of 19,135 square feet of concrete were placed at the site.
