Conley Gilbert Rhoten, 84, of Amarillo, formerly of Fritch, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be Saturday Sept. 3, 2011, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Rice officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Devotion at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Milton James (M.J.) Weatherford, 82, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Borger, Texas.
Graveside services will be Friday, September 2, 2011 at Highland Park Cemetery with Bruce Ridling of Borger Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
M.J. married Clara B. Ellis on February 5, 1951 in Clayton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death in November 1990. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. M.J. loved to fish.
Annelle Shipp Smith of Texas City, TX, formerly of Fritch, TX, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. She was born in Newport, TX on July 20, 1913 to Lula and O.M. Shipp.
Kenton J. Savage, 65, of Borger passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Borger Healthcare Center. He was born Monday, March 4, 1946 in Chickasha, OK to Orvil James and Helen Oaks Savage.
Kenton moved to Stinnett, TX in 1956. He graduated from Stinnett High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country.
Big changes are going into effect for drivers in the State of Texas.
As of September 1, 2011, existing 65 mile-per-hour night and truck speed limits will be bumped to 70 mph.
All signs with the night and truck speed limits should be removed by the end of this year and citizens are asked to abide by the posted limit of 70mph.
Borger ISD has a budget in place for the upcoming 2011-12 fiscal year.
The new budget, approved by the BISD board of trustees during a special meeting Tuesday evening, represents $21,617,734 in revenue and $21,808,693 in expenditures. The difference in revenue and expenditures is $190,959.
Chance Welch, superintendent for Borger ISD, said as the district closes out its 2010-11 budget, it is pleased that it balanced a budget that began with a $550,000 deficit.
Last Friday, the 2011 season did not start as planned for the Borger Bulldogs in the 35-7 loss to the Randall Raiders.
Three first half turnovers, along with the solid play be Randallâ€™s quarterback Collin Bowen, placed the Bulldogs into a 28-7 hole by halftime in the Raiders win.
Funeral services for Mabel Louise Gunter, 88, formerly of Borger, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Gateway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Rawlinson, Pastor officiating.Â
Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Louise was born July 6, 1923 in Burkburnett, TX, to Forrest and Angie Glidewell.Â She had been a resident of Phillips and Borger for the past 75 years.Â She married J. C. Gunter April 1, 1944 in Phillips, TX. He preceded her in death in 2004.Â She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Zelma Mae Wood, 82, will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Minton Memorial Chapel with Kyle Holley of Amarillo officiating.Â
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Wood was born in Cordell, Okla., July 1, 1929, to Albert and Flora Bell Harbin.Â She married William Benson Wood April 29, 1944, in Spearman, TX. He preceded her in death in February of 2003.Â Zelma had lived in Skellytown for 50 years prior to moving to Borger three years ago.Â She loved to play with her grandkids.
Borger ISD has a new school bus! The bus was purchased with funds awarded from High Plains Resource Conservation and Development. Showing off the new bus are BISD Director of Transportation Kenneth Coleman, BISD Superintendent Chance Welch, BISD Business Manager Faye Hooper, and Borger Chamber of Commerce CEO Beverly Benton.
