Sherry Vivian Traylor, 47, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in Fritch.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Grace Church in Borger with Associate Pastor Tim Hall of Grace and Pastor Bill Browning of Broadway Baptist Church of Fritch officiating. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Bernice Opal Young Nicholson was born in Indiahoma, OK on August 16, 1918 and lived in Borger, Texas for many years. Opal has resided in Cedar Hill, Texas for the last 4 years. She went to heaven on August 6, 2011 and was 92 years of age.
Chaos was the word at the regular meeting of the Stinnett City Council Monday evening
Local Stinnett citizen Crystal Irvin spoke her concerns about both the handling of the arson investigation regarding her family as well as the general day-to-day operations of the local law enforcement.
While speaking to the city council members and citizens, she asked Chief of Police Marie Farbro to stand in front her and the congregation and stated, â€śAs a person I have nothing against you. I think youâ€™re probably a fine person. For what ever reason I donâ€™t believe youâ€™re competent at your job.â€ť
Work on the new Subway Restaurant is officially underway.
Frank Wingate, one of the operating partners of Subway in Borger, said ground was officially broken this past week at the corner of Opal and West Wilson, directly in front of the Holiday Inn Express.
Wingate said the new Subway will resemble the store in the Abilene area. The new location will have a drive-thru and will be a steel building with a bricked exterior.
He said under the terms of the building contract, the new Subway should be completed in December of this year.
CANYON-Last week Borger Lady Bulldog Head Volleyball Coach Michael Littlejohn said that he expected his team to take a few lumps early in the season due to the amount of new faces on the varsity roster.
On Tuesday evening, Littlejohnâ€™s words rang true as the Lady Bulldogs got off to slow starts against the Bushland Lady Falcons and Canyon Lady Eagles dropping both matches in three sets.
Canyon defeats Borger 10-25, 20-25, 14-25.
On Monday, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles opened their 2011 volleyball season in Amarillo taking on San Jacinto and Caprock in a triangular where they came up short in both matches.
Against the Lady Patriots, the Lady Eagles played tough but dropped the match in three games 16-25, 18-25, 16-25.
In their match against the 4A Caprock Lady Longhorns, the Lady Eagles were in a great match that went five games.
On Monday morning Frank Phillips College Menâ€™s Basketball Coach Chris Hackett announced that the team has added 6-6 wing David Hall to the Plainsmenâ€™s 2011-12 roster.
Hall is a Lynwood, Calif. native who spent the past season playing for Yavapai College in Arizona where he averaged nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals per game.
Hall is transferring to Frank Phillips College due to Yavapai College dropping their menâ€™s basketball program this spring.
