Officials are investigating a vehicle explosion that occurred early Thursday morning.
On Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 3:30 am. in the 1400 block of Davis, a vehicle explosion left a Stinnett resident with second degree burns. Stinnett Chief of Police Marie Farbro stated that arson is suspected. Truck owner Jeff Irvin tried to put the fire out with a water hose. The pickup truck then exploded and knocked the man down.

Borger looks good during 7-on-7 action in Amarillo

Earlier this month, members of the Borger Bulldog football team took part in 7-on-7 action at the Caprock Tournament in Amarillo.
The Borger team made a solid showing by posting a 2-1 record in pool play.
The Borger team’s only loss came against Caprock, 20-13, who went on to win the tournament.
A Borger team of junior high/8th graders also competed in a tournament at Caprock falling to Caprock and Palo Duro along with playing Dalhart to a tie.

J.P (Junro) Johnston of Borger passed away on June 29, 2011. Services will be at 3:00PM, Friday, July 1, 2011 at Brown Chapel Of The Fountains in Borger, TX.
J.P. was born July 31, 1917, in Sharon, OK. The second of seven children born to Grover P. Johnston and Lillie Barnes Johnston, J.P. was the last surviving member of that family. Deceased siblings were Charles Johnston, Claralee Johnston, Elton Ray Johnston, Jack Johnston, James Johnston, Bessie Lou Dugan, and half-brother Casey Garrett.

James Franklin Farrell passed away June 27th, 2011 around 7am in Shreveport, LA at the home of his daughter Mischa Farrell.  “Jim” was a beloved father, husband and friend.  Anyone that encountered him could not help but be touched by his cheerful demeanor.  Jim always had time to talk and listen to anyone and everyone.  Even in sickness, he had the best attitude and was simply happy, optimistic, and seemed to care more about whomever he was talking to than himself.  Before retirement, he worked as a Dental Technician in the basement of his home with his wife Bobbie.  The kids could always vis

PANHANDLE - Nelda O. Webb, 76, a former resident of Panhandle, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Panhandle with Rev. Buddy Payne, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stinnett Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Gillmore, Pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Sharon Yvette Smith Tidwell, 69, was born in Hollis, OK, on April 7, 1942, and began her journey to heaven on Monday, June 27, 2011.
She has joined her loving husband, Jerry Tidwell of 52 years in Heaven to Rest In Peace.
Sharon was a generous & caring person who had a special place for everyone in her heart. She will be greatly missed & will remain in our hearts forever.

Recent CRMWA agreement will benefit Borger area

The recent signage of an agreement between the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority and Mesa Water will have a positive effect on the Borger area.
The signing of the water rights between the two entities took place on June 23 at the Plainview Country Club/Civic Center in Plainview.
Pickens and Mesa Water, Inc. sold the water rights beneath 211,000 acres for $103 million to CRMWA. The purchase gives CRMWA water rights for over 400,000 acres in the Texas Panhandle, almost all of which is located in Roberts County.

Farmer’s Market set to begin tomorrow

The Hutchinson County Farmer’s Market is set to begin tomorrow morning!
The market will be set up every Friday through the remainder of the summer from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. or sooner if farmers sell out.
The market will be located in the 500 block of Weatherly (one block east of Main Street).
The market is open to all community buyers and sellers. Stands will consist of a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, homemade jams, breads, and assorted fruit juices.

Elvira Carrales: A true champion

As soon as Elvira Carrales came onto the gymnasium floor at Amarillo High School on Wednesday evening, it was evident that the 10-year-old was ready to live in the moment and get the crowd of around 1,000 people up on their feet.
