Borger’s Irwin earns Third Team All-State honors

After a great season at the plate and out of centerfield, recent Borger graduate Garrett Irwin was named to the THSBCA 3A Third team All-State team.
Irwin played a key role in helping the Borger Bulldogs claim the District 1-3A title and reach the 3A Region I Quarterfinals.
This weekend Irwin will play for the 1A-3A North squad in the THSBCA All Star Game that will be played at at Dell Diamond Park in Round Rock.

Local golfers take first and second in Junior Golf Tournament

On Tuesday a Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Tournament was held at the Borger Country Club with local golfers Dylan Coffer taking first place and Nathan Forrest taking second place in the boys 15-16 year old division.
Coffer and Forrest tied for first place after the regular round, with both shooting a two under par 70. Leading to a scorecard playoff with Coffer coming out as the winner.
Coffer will be a sophomore at Borger High School while Forrest will be a junior at West Texas High School.

Joe Frank Wheeler Scholarship presented on Wednesday Night

As Amarillo Sox Vice President/General Manager Mark Lee stepped onto the field on Wednesday evening, it was clear the presentation of the Joe Frank Wheeler Scholarship is something that is dear to the man’s heart.
Lee started the presentation talking about Wheeler and the role he had played in Amarillo professional baseball and the support and work he had done over the years with Texas Panhandle area high school athletics.
Wheeler served as the PA Announcer for several years in Amarillo and prior to that worked as the voice of Borger Bulldog and Lady Bulldog athletics.

City votes to participate in CRMWA bonds

The City of Borger has officially taken action to participate in the issuing of revenue bonds by the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority.
Action was taken by the Borger City Council earlier this month to authorize participation in the CRMWA’s Subordinate Lien Revenue Bonds, Series 2011, and approve an amendment to the City of Borger’s conjunctive use groundwater supply agreement with CRMWA.

Crews respond to fire near Skellytown

June 16, 2011

Local fire crews responded to a grass fire near Skellytown Wednesday afternoon.
Crews began fighting the fire around noon. The fire was about six miles east from Carson County on Highway 152, approaching the Hutchinson County lines.
It caused the closure of the highway, sending traffic through Panhandle. The call was reported at 11:10 a.m. and was put out at 2 p.m.
Skellytown and Panhandle Fire Departments first responded to the scene and eventually asked for mutual aid, bringing in Hoover, White Deer, Borger, Stinnett, and Hutchinson County.
