Honors keep on coming for local athletes

Local area student continue to enjoy the fruits of their success in the athletic field and classroom by earning various awards for what they have done this school year.
Fresh off winning the 3A State Mixed-Doubles title with his sister Abbie in Austin last week, Borger High School senior Josh Madden was named to the 3A All-State Academic Tennis Team. J.Madden will graduate as salutatorian from Borger High School.
Wednesday morning, Borger High School junior Abbie Madden was announced as Female Athlete of the Year in Tennis by the Amarillo Globe News.

Athletic Summer Camps starting to be organized

With school wrapping up in the next two weeks, several of the area coaches are busy making plans for their athletic summer camps to help younger student-athletics learn the basics of various sports.
More athletic camps will be announced throughout the summer from the different local high schools and Frank Phillips College.
Baseball
The Borger Baseball Summer Camp is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 6th through Thursday, June 9th at Huber Park Baseball Field.

F.A. Lamb

F. A. Lamb, 77, of Bartlesville, Okla.passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 2:00 a.m. in Jane Phillips Medical Center due to complications of Inclusion Body Myositis.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Bartlesville with Dr. Joe Dan Fowler officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17th at the funeral home.

BPD commemorates National Police Week

With May 15-21 being National Police Week, the Borger Police Department has received appreciation from a newly formed organization.
To kick off the week, members of the BPD Blue Rose Association, an association established to help police members and their families in times of need, presented the Borger Police Department with an Honorary Cake of Appreciation.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said the department would greatly like to thank the members of the BPD Blue Rose Association, particularly Rhonda Roberts - president; Melissa Strope - vice president; and Susan Holland, treasurer.

BHS holds academic awards banquet

The top 10s for each of the classes at Borger High School received special honors during the school’s academic awards banquet held Monday evening at First United Methodist Church.

Borger takes on Lubbock Cooper in Regional Quarterfinals this weekend

The Borger Bulldogs will take on the Lubbock Cooper Pirates in a best of three series this weekend in the 3A Regional Quarterfinals.
All three games will be played at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview with game one starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
Game two will start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday followed by game three if necessary.

Sanford-Fritch athletes look back on spring semester

Monday evening Sanford-Fritch coaches, athletes and family gathered at Dake’s Restaurant in Borger to look back on the spring semester in Eagles and Lady Eagles athletics.
The coaches spent time talking about the ups and downs their teams faced over the season but credited the student athletes for their continued hard work and dedication to the various programs.
Winning awards on Monday evening were:

Election results are in!

The election results from the Borger City Council and Borger Independent School Board races are officially in!
Robert Vinyard won re-election in the general election held Saturday, May 14 over challengers Brandy Callahan and John Ray.
According to unofficial vote totals released by the City of Borger, Vinyard received 394 votes to Callahan’s 321 votes and Ray’s 60 votes.
In early voting, Vinyard received 183 votes, Callahan received 202 votes, and Ray received 38 votes.

City council to swear in incumbent

Robert Vinyard will be sworn in for another term of office on the Borger City Council.
This action will take place during the council’s regular meeting, set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, in the city council chambers of City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will canvass the returns of a city officer’s election held May 14, 2011, and will act on a resolution canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the election. The oath of office will be then administered to Vinyard, along with the statement of elected officer, and the Certificate of Election will be presented to Vinyard.

Pool wins state track title

On Friday, senior J’Cee Pool became the first Borger High School Lady Bulldog to ever win a championship at the state track and field meet, a feat longtime Borger Track Coach Jeep Webb confirmed shortly after Pool won the 3A Girls Discus with a throw of 140-00. On her thoughts of Pool winning the state title, Borger Head Girls Track Coach Leslie Young recalled, ”We knew going to Austin that J’cee could medal, she just had to compete and that’s exactly what she did. She didn’t go out and win it on her first throw, she didn’t take the lead until the first throw of the finals.
