May 20th
Sanford-Fritch High School has named its top two graduates for the Class of 2011.
Celeste Renea Flood is this year’s valedictorian and Taylor Lane Council-Church has been named salutatorian.
While at SFHS, Flood was involved in National Honor Society and Student Council, ran track, participated in cheerleading, and was named Class Favorite, Prom Queen, and Miss SFHS.
She plans to attend Texas Tech University to study pre-medicine. She received a scholarship from the Texas Classroom Teacher’s Association and the Texas Tech Merit Scholarship.
The City of Borger Park Recreation Program has gotten a huge boost as it prepares to kick off this June.
Hutchinson County Cares recently gave a donation of $5,000 on behalf of the city’s program. Tony Powell, Jim Bridwell, Jerri Aylor, and Toby Nutter presented the money to Annadon Keys, supervisor of the Johnson Park Youth Center.
Keys said because of the donation, children from Fritch and Stinnett will be allowed to attend the program absolutely free this year.

A ranking of ninth in the state to go along with a 30-5 record typically would cause an intimidation factor going into a playoff series for the opposing team.
That could have been the case in Plainview this week, as the mentioned high ranking and great record belongs to the Lubbock Cooper Pirates, the Borger Bulldogs’ opponent in this weekend’s best of three 3A Regional Quarterfinal series.
On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents unanimously approved an employment contract for FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks, effective April 18 and running until July 31 of 2012.
After serving as the interim president since December, the Board of Regents officially named Dr. Hicks as the new college president during its April meeting.
Prior to becoming president, Dr. Hicks served as the college’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), a position he had held since 2002.
The Borger Rotary Club recognized three students for their accomplishments in this year’s Four-Way Test Essay Contest.
Borger Middle School student Cooper Jones was named the first place winner, and BMS students Shelby Harris and Ashleigh Brown each tied for second.
All across Hutchinson County, there are fund raisers going on to help cancer survivors and those who are suffering from it.
Two are on behalf of Relay for Life, and one is on the behalf of a young teen suffering from cancer.
The St. Andrew United Methodist Church “Heavenly” Cookies Team for the 2011 Relay for life will be holding a fundraiser called “Bowl-A-Rama.” This will start at 1pm and will last till 5pm on Sunday, May 22 at Wildcatter’s, 1501 South Main.

New Frank Phillips College Volleyball Coach Ashley Dyer continues to build her 2011 squad, welcoming Alexis Fritz to the Lady Plainsman roster.
Ms. Fritz is a 5' 7" setter from Klein High School, where she was a three- year starter for the Bearkats. She earned District 13-5A Honorable Mention honors her senior year, and participated in the Junior Olympics as a sophomore.
A longtime board member and a new board member were sworn in as trustees during the regular meeting of the Borger ISD board of trustees Tuesday evening.
Robert Bradley, a longtime board member and current vice-president, and Les Sharp, newly elected board member, have officially started their new terms as board members.
The Borger City Council has officially ratified the results of this year’s general election.
After a canvass of the votes of the election, which was held this past Saturday, a resolution was passed to canvass the returns and declare the results of the election.
Following this action, council members Robert Vinyard, who currently serves as Mayor Pro-Tem, and Jeff Brain, who currently serves as Mayor, were administered the oath of office and the statement of elected officer. The two then presented certificates of election to each other.
Luminarias are now available to purchase for this year’s Relay For Life, in remembrance of those fighting or lost loved ones from the cause of cancer. All funds from purchases will go towards Luminarias presented in a ceremony that will happen during the relay .
The Relay for Life is set for June 10 and 11 from 7pm-7am at the Huber Park located in Borger. Names in memory of or in honor of are placed on white bags, which will line the Relay For Life track at Huber Park. The Luminaria ceremony will take place at dusk.
