On Thursday afternoon Borger High School senior soccer player Hannah Blakely signed a letter of intent to play colleigate soccer at West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
A four-year letterman for the Lady Bulldogs, the 2011 team captain has established herself the past couple of years as one of the best high school girl soccer players in West Texas.
On Thursday evening coaches, athletes, family and school administrators of West Texas High School celebrated a great year in sports at the Comanche and Lady Comanche Athletic Banquet in Stinnett.
Winning the 2010-11 Fighting Comanche award was senior Logan Hoff, while winning the 2010-11 Fighting Lady Comanche award were seniors Erin Frost and Maci Forrest.
Receiving the National Scholar Athlete Award were Maci Forrest and senior Terrence Bonds.
Hoff was recognized for being named as one of the Amarillo Globe News Scholar Athletes of the Year.
Firefighters from across the area responded to a fire in the Antelope Creek area Thursday afternoon.
Yesterday, a 911 call from a cell phone was received at 2 p.m. in Antelope Creek that was warning of a grass fire.
Sanford-Fritch High School has named its top two graduates for the Class of 2011.
Celeste Renea Flood is this year’s valedictorian and Taylor Lane Council-Church has been named salutatorian.
While at SFHS, Flood was involved in National Honor Society and Student Council, ran track, participated in cheerleading, and was named Class Favorite, Prom Queen, and Miss SFHS.
She plans to attend Texas Tech University to study pre-medicine. She received a scholarship from the Texas Classroom Teacher’s Association and the Texas Tech Merit Scholarship.
The City of Borger Park Recreation Program has gotten a huge boost as it prepares to kick off this June.
Hutchinson County Cares recently gave a donation of $5,000 on behalf of the city’s program. Tony Powell, Jim Bridwell, Jerri Aylor, and Toby Nutter presented the money to Annadon Keys, supervisor of the Johnson Park Youth Center.
Keys said because of the donation, children from Fritch and Stinnett will be allowed to attend the program absolutely free this year.
