Lady Dawgs beat Perryton, clinch playoff berth

PERRYTON-The ending wasn’t pretty, but the Borger Lady Bulldogs were able to hang on for a 9-8 win over the Perryton Rangerettes on Friday afternoon, which allowed the team to clinch a playoff berth and avoid having to be involved in a potential playoff tournament.
Going into Friday’s contest, Borger and Dalhart held a one-game lead over Perryton in the district standings. If Perryton was able to defeat the Lady Bulldogs, along with a Dalhart loss to Pampa, the three teams would of found themselves having to take part in some kind of playoff for the playoffs.

Comanches put an end to Follett’s perfect record

West Texas High came into Follett Friday afternoon to face an unbeaten 10-0 Panther baseball team. The Comanches trailed once, 1-0, after the first inning. Follett fought back in the bottom of the seventh and had the winning run at first base, when Ty Lay fanned the hitter to end the game with a 15-14 win. The win keeps the Tribe in second place behind Follett. WT needs some help from someone else in the District to beat Follett to give them any chance at the District Crown.

HCSO to conduct Operation Child ID

Throughout the years, there have been various cases of kidnapped children, such as Adam Walsh, Polly Klaas, Jonathan Foster, and others. When such a crime occurs, law enforcement needs as much information as possible, such as photos, descriptions, fingerprints, and DNA, if possible.
According to James Qualls of the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office, it is the desire of his agency and other law enforcement that such a crime does not happen again.
“However, we must come to grips [with the facts that] this type of crime does occur,” he said.

Washer truly values the work of the MS Walk

There is a local citizen who truly values the work of the MS Walk now more than ever.
Sandra Washer was diagnosed with MS back in 1992, and every year since the MS Walk started in 1994, she has played a significant part in the walk each year.
She said there was a man named Byron Nesbitt who started the walk in Borger because he wanted to do something for a organization that did good, that actually helped somebody, and she worked right along with him.

Suspicious death classified as homicide

A suspicious death in the Keeler Heights area that is being investigated by the Borger Police Department and the Texas Rangers has now been classified as a homicide.
On Thursday, April 21, 2011, at approximately 11:14 a.m., officers from the Borger Police Department were dispatched to 120 Garrett Street in reference to an unattended death.

Lady Bulldogs clinch playoff berth with win over Perryton

Friday afternoon the Borger Lady Bulldogs were able to leave Perryton with a 9-8 win over the Rangerettes in District 1-3A action
The win allowed Borger to clinch a playoff berth by taking their district record to 4-5 while Perryton finishes district play with a 2-7 mark.

Dustin Athey, 3 months old, of Fritch passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2010.
Dustin Tyler Athey was born Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in Borger, TX to Johnathon Athey and Victoria Swigert.
Survivors include his parents; one brother, Trevor Mirabella; paternal grandmother, Pam Athey of Fritch, TX; four uncles and one aunt.
Cremation was entrusted to Brown Funeral Directors.
No services are planned at this time.

Local, state officials investigating suspicious death

(UPDATE: According to information received from the Borger Police Department, this has been ruled a homicide. More details will be available later this evening.)

Local and state officials are currently investigating a suspicious death in the Keeler Heights area.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department, yesterday morning before noon, officers responded to Garrett Street in reference to a death.
Once they got over there and began to investigate, the Texas Rangers were called to assist in the investigation.

Superintendents: It’s a difficult time for school districts

It is a difficult time for school districts.
This was the sentiment shared by two local superintendents, Jim McClellan of Sanford-Fritch ISD and Chance Welch of Borger ISD. The two men shared about their backgrounds, along with the struggles their districts are facing, during a gathering of the Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association meeting Thursday.
