El Paso CC takes two from FPC Plainsmen

The start of the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen series with El Paso CC did not get off to a good start as two bad innings helped El Paso take game one 12-8.
The Plainsmen struggles continued in game two as El Paso’s bats stayed hot to defeated Frank Phillips 14-5 to take both games on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Stephen Seger, who has been solid on the mound much of the season, struggled in the first inning in game one by giving up a double, walk, single and a grand slam to give El Paso a 0-4 lead before the Plainsmen could get the first out.

Bulldogs look for 2-0 district mark on Saturday

With a record at 10-9-1, it is probably safe to say that the Borger Bulldog baseball team has plenty to be happy with at this point of the season while also knowing there are areas the team will need to continue to improve in as they to try to claim the District 1-3A crown and make a playoff run.
The Bulldogs opened district play this past Tuesday where the team came away with a 10-4 win over Dalhart that included a great pitching performance by senior Hunter Hertel with the righthander striking out 13 Wolf batters.

Robert Landrum Mathews

AMARILLO - Robert Landrum Mathews, 82, died March 30, 2011, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Corky Holland, First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo.
Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell, Amarillo.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the funeral home.

Lilburn “PeeWee” Forrest Ritter

AMARILLO - Lilburn “PeeWee” Forrest Ritter, 76, died March 30, 2011, in Amarillo, TX.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Fines Marchman, pastor of First Baptist Church of Skellytown, officiating.
Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Ritter was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Groom. He attended schools in Grandview. He married Fern Canady on Aug. 28, 1955, in Clayton, N.M.

Living Water Ministries offering free prom dresses

Living Water Ministries is offering free prom dresses to any young ladies who are needing them for that special night.
Right now, they have about eight or nine dresses to choose from.
Becky Dietz, director of Living Water, said, “We are receiving and giving them away for free.”
She also said if citizens would like to donate a dress they can bring them to Living Water located on Fourth and Main. The dresses need to be brought in the door under the arch.
Again, this is open to anyone. Living Water is open Monday thru Thursday from 9am to 3pm, and is located at 335 North Main Street.

Borger Chamber honors local citizens

Two citizens received special recognition during the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet Thursday evening.
Harry Kuhrt was named Citizen of the Year and Steve Hubertus was named Red Coat of the Year at the festivities, held at the Union Hall. The theme of this year’s event was “Magic Moments.”
Kuhrt received his award from the 2010 Citizens of the Year, Shawn and Carrie Burleson.
Of Kuhrt, S. Burleson said it has been cited that he unselfishly has given of his time to the community of Borger for many years.
