Dyer named new FPC Head Volleyball Coach

Frank Phillips College is pleased to introduce Ashley Dyer as its new Volleyball Coach and Developmental Math Instructor.
“I’m excited to be at FPC,” Ms. Dyer said. “With its great record and many national appearances, I’ll be stepping into a good program. I am looking forward to building the program even more. I have high expectations for the years to come.”

FPC pitcher Levy signs with Webber International

After serving the past two seasons as the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen’s top pitcher, Kiana Levy signed to continue playing softball at the colleigate level at Webber International University located in Babson Park, Fla., outside of Orlando.

Mildred Irene Tate Duckworth

Mildred Irene Tate Duckworth, 84, of Borger, passed away, Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
Mildred (Wickerd) Duckworth was born Tuesday, June 29, 1926 in Eagle Rock, CA to Oliver Henry and Ina Pearl Wickerd. She was a beautician.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Marion Lawrence Tate; her second husband, David R. Duckworth; and her son, Kirk Raymond Tate.

Charlotte Kay Garrett

Charlotte Kay Garrett, 60, of Borger, passed away, Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
Charlotte Kay (Benton) Garrett was born Thursday, May 18, 1950, in Borger, to Thomas W. and Almeta (Peden) Benton. She married William Dean Garrett on May 25, 1968, in Stinnett. She was a nurse.
She is preceded in death by her father and her husband.

Moonlight Madness set for Friday

Those seeking some food, fun, and great sales are invited to come out to the Downtown Merchants Association’s Moonlight Madness event this Friday.
The event will take place from 6-10 p.m. Friday, April 15.
The event promises fun, refreshments, sales, and a poker run on foot for those who participate.
Several businesses on Main Street will be participating in the evening’s activities.

United Way, HutchCares benefit from volunteer involvement

(Editor’s Note: With April 10-16 being National Volunteer Week, this is part two of a four-part series about the importance of volunteers in certain organizations throughout the community.)

There are two local non-profit organizations that depend on the help of volunteers in order to continue having an impact in the community.
United Way and HutchCares find having volunteers a very critical part of their non-profit organizations.
Kim Cook, the director for HutchCares, said that the organization “would have nothing if it weren’t for the volunteers.”

BEDC enters agreement with Fuzzy’s Radiator

Earlier this year Alan Jones, of Fuzzy’s Radiator Service, approached the Borger Economic Development Board to see what kind of assistance the EDC could provide as the company looked into expanding their heat exchanger process at their facilities located on the south side of Borger near Highway 207.
After looking at the project and taking time for discussion on the project, on Tuesday the EDC Board approved an incentive agreement with Fuzzy’s Radiator that will grant the company an investment of $700,000 over a five year period during their regularly scheduled April meeting.
