FPC’s Michaud signs on with Kansas Wesleyan

On Wednesday afternoon, Frank Phillips College sophomore catcher Kristi Michaud made her plans for the next school year officially known by signing her letter of intent to become a member of the Kansas Wesleyan University Lady Coyotes Softball team.
A Canada native, Michaud has spent the past two seasons being a consistent force at the plate for the Lady Plainsmen as well as providing leadership and solid defensive skills behind the plate.

Beverly June Callahan

FRITCH - Beverly June Callahan, 84, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, in Pampa.
There are no services scheduled at this time. Cremation is under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Mrs. Callahan was born on June 2, 1926, in Vacaville, Calif., and was a Fritch resident since 2000. She was a waitress for Waffle House for 20 years and was a Baptist. She especially enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Louisa Bartell, her husband Hughie Callahan, and her son Thomas Callahan.

Luther Edward (LE) Thomas, 83, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, March 30, 2011.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Sammy O'Dell, Pastor of Grace Communion International, officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

BISD Foundation has scholarships available

The Borger ISD Foundation has six scholarships available for high school seniors about to walk the stage this May.
There are two Class of 1950 scholarships, worth $250 each, and two Class of 53,54,55,56,and 57 scholarships, worth $500.
In order to be eligible for these scholarships, students must be 2011 BHS graduates, had one or both parents or grandparents graduate from Borger High School, and have plans to attend a college, university, or vocational school.
There are also two Class of 1980 scholarships available, each worth $350.

Tri-City Concert Association seeking members in 2011-12 season

As the Tri-City Concert Association prepares for its 2011-12 season, it is currently seeking members to enjoy the variety of entertainment it has to offer.
Borger is hosting three concerts during this upcoming season. The first one will be the Shangril-La Chinese Acrobats, which will be held at 7:30 Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, in the Borger High School Auditorium.

13th Annual Curves Food Drive kicks off in April

Local residents are encouraged to make a difference through the 13th annual Curves Food Drive which is set to kick off this April.
Throughout the month, Curves of Borger will participate in this drive to collect non-perishable food and cash donations to benefit their local food bank. From April 4-17, Curves will waive the membership fee for new members who donate a bag of non-perishable food or make a minimum donation of $30.

Trash Bash is underway!

In case local citizens didn’t know, the City of Borger is currently in the middle of its Spring Trash Bash.
The event is taking place through Saturday.
The city is sponsoring the free week for county residents to bring their trash to the transfer station, located at 920 North Florida.
Tire disposal will not have a limit throughout this time period.
Free disposal of tires will take place for residential customers only, and an ID will be required of all persons who are disposing of tires.
The event is being sponsored by the Borger Chamber of Commerce and the City of Borger.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

The month of April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
In honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month, the Hutchinson County Child Welfare Board will be hosting a 5K run on Saturday, April 23, 2011. The race will start at 8am from the park beside the Museum on Main St.
The cost of registration is $25, and this includes a go blue t-shirt. Children under 10 are free if accompanied by a registered parent (no t-shirt will be provided for these children). The public is also encouraged to wear blue on this day for the “Go Blue” statewide campaign to raise awareness to child abuse awareness.

The Marina is almost empty

The Marina at Lake Meredith is close to being emptied. The decision was made to close the Marina late last year due to the low lake levels at Lake Meredith. The Marina officially closed at the beginning of 2011.
