The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Borger took time to discuss various items during a session held Monday evening.
First on the agenda was to receive and consider a request from Jeff Whittington to re-zone 1.5 acres of land located in the SE/4 of Sect. 18, Block â€śYâ€ť, M&C Survey, from single family (IF-2) zoning district to commercial zoning district to be known as 100 Denton. This piece of land is located off Houston and Gardner.
WICHITA FALLS-As the Borger Lady Bulldogs were entering the 4A soccer playoffs for the fourth season in a row, the expectations were that the team would hopefully find a way to break through to the area round to capture the first playoff victory in the history of the program in their contest against the Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs yesterday in Wichita Falls.
Unfortunately, Abilene Wyile showed what they entered the contest with an impressive 19-5-1 record and showed they were the District 6-4A champs by coming out early on their way to getting the 7-1 win to end Borgerâ€™s season.
Despite the cold conditions, the Borger Bulldog boys golf team shot an impressive 306 to extend their lead in the District 1-3A standings after the second round of the district tournament on Monday at the Phillips Golf Course.
The Bulldogs were led by senior Will Paulsell who followed his 69 from a week ago with a 72 to have a two-round total of 141, which places him 10 strokes ahead of Hunter Wade of Perryton for the overall lead.
West Texas Highâ€™s Comanches opened up district baseball with a disappointing 7-5 loss to Follett Saturday. The Comanches made four costly errors, but made a great comeback attempt in the bottom of the final inning. They had the runners on base, but just couldnâ€™t get them across home plate.
Logan Hoff pitched four innings and gave up five earned runs. Carlos Juarez threw three innings and gave up zero runs and allowed just one hit.
The new Hampton Inn of Borger will open on March 31. This hotel will have such features as 32-inch LCD televisions as well as free high-speed internet access.
A â€śSuite Shopâ€ť will be available for late night snacks or goodies for the road, along with a fitness center for people wanting to get in a good workout.
There is a Business Center that will be available 24 hours a day for hotel guests to print documents and boarding passes, check email messages or surf the web, etc., and a free continental breakfast is available.
The Crime Stoppers is seeking the help of the public in the resolution of an unsolved burglary that occurred earlier this month.
On March 17, 2011, during the evening hours, a residence in the 1100 block of Carpenter Street was burglarized.
During the burglary, several firearms were stolen from the residence. Also taken from the residence were gun sights, scopes, and rifle cases.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department, the estimated loss value of the firearms and accessories totaled near $2,000.
