Borger fire crews were busy on Christmas Eve fighting a fire on Coble Street.
A fire broke out inside a home on the 900 block of Coble. The fire gutted the inside of the home, according to Fire Chief Bob Watson. The fire occurred at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, and was contained within 30 minutes. The fire crews did not leave the scene till 8:30 p.m.
High Plains Helping Hand recently received a generous donation on behalf of a local Scout pack.
Prior to the Christmas holidays, Rob Marr, representing Cub Scout Pack 565, delivered 2,280 pounds of food to the organizationâ€™s headquarters, in addition to a cash donation of $236.48.
Carolyn Poindexter, who is with High Plains Helping Hand, said the donation will greatly benefit not only the organization itself, but those who are in need during the holidays and all year long.
â€śWe got so much food,â€ť she said. â€śWe are so blessed.â€ť
A local business is doing its part once again to meet the needs of families this holiday season.
Ralls Appliance received enough qualifying purchases during their annual Refrigerator Donation Sale to donate refrigerators to seven local families in need.
Jack Klaus, owner of Ralls Appliance, said the business is extremely excited about the support its customers have shown for this program.
Oneta L. Driver, 81, died Saturday Dec. 24, 2011, at Fritch, Texas.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 27, 2011, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ben Corbitt of Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church of Pampa officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Beatitudes at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Delwanda Tate, 78, of Borger, died Saturday Dec. 24, 2011, in Amarillo.
Funeral services were at 10:00 am Wednesday Dec. 28, at Eternal Light Church with Rev. Willy Adams officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
James Alfred Wall, 88, of Mansville, Okla., passed away Dec. 24, 2011, at his home in Mannsville. He was born in Stratford, Okla., on Aug. 7, 1923, to the late James Hilburn Wall and Gladys Beulah Lewelling Wall. James was raised in Stratford and later moved to Borger, Texas. In 2002, he moved to Mannsville where he lived for the rest of his life. He married Aliomae Weems on March 31, 1946, in Pauls Valley, Okla. James was a retired operator and shift supervisor for Phillips Petroleum Company and he also did carpentry work. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and spending time with his family.
Charles Edward Hendricks, 84, resident of Bartlesville, died at 1:47 AM on Saturday December 24, 2011, at the St. John Hospital in Tulsa surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday December 28, 2011 in the Eastern Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Vallandingham officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105 honors team of which Mr. Hendricks was a member for many years. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Starting on Wednesday, the Borger Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs varsity basketball teams will be taking part in holiday tournament action in Lubbock and Breckenridge.
The Borger Bulldogs will travel to Lubbock to take part in the 53rd Annual FiberMax Caprock Classic, which has become one of the largest high school basketball tournaments in the country.
The Bulldogs will compete in the 32 team boys red bracket which will include teams from Midland Greenwood, Snyder, Monahans, Vernon, Andrews, Levelland, as well as district foes Pampa and Perryton.
The Borger High School Football Banquet is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 12th, 2012.
The banquet will be held at the Church of Christ at Borger, located on Bulldog Boulevard beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are $10 a piece and can be purchased at the Borger Athletic Office beginning on January 4th.
The Plaza will cater the banquet and a 2011 highlight video will be shown on an 82 inch flat screen tv donated by â€śAaronâ€™s Rent To Ownâ€ť.
Funeral services for Audry Adrian McWilliams, 85, of Scotts Acres will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Church in Borger with Pastor Tim Hall, Associate Pastor officiating. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, OK under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. McWilliams died Thursday December 22 in Amarillo.
He was a Veteran of WW II in the Navy and a member of 1st Baptist Church of Stinnett. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and loved raising chickens. He has been a resident of this area since 1951.
