A Borger man has been sentenced to 45 years for a murder that occurred in the spring of 2010.
Yesterday, visiting 316th District Judge David Gleason sentence Jose Israel Rodas, 38, of Borger, to 45 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the April 17, 2010, slaying of 36-year-old Gloria Arias.
The Borger Police Department and Crime Stoppers are asking citizens to be on their guard when it comes to counterfeit bills.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of BPD said that over the past couple of weeks, the department has taken several reports in reference to counterfeit $20 bills being passed again in the Borger area.
“So far, these counterfeit bills have been reported as being passed at five local locations,” he said.
Anyone who receives currency that is suspected of being counterfeit is encouraged to contact BPD at 806-273-0930.
All banks and credit unions in Borger will be closed for certain dates for Christmas and New Year’s. The hours are as follows:
•Happy State Bank hours will be from 9 a.m. - 3p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22 and Friday Dec. 23, 2011. They will be closed Monday, Dec. 26 and resume regular lobby hours from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and drive thru hours from 7:30 – 6 p.m. for Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011.
•Borger Bank will be closed Monday, Dec. 26 and resume regular lobby hours from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and drive thru 7:30 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011.
Council members for the City of Stinnett met on Monday, Dec 19, 2011 around 6 p.m. in Stinnett City Hall at 609 Mackenzie, Stinnett.
The meeting begin with public comment from Ted Gaddis the about 4th street potholes and Farmer to McCormick maintenance issues.
Council members then reviewed monthly reports from maintenance, EMS, Fire Department, Police Department CDC, and the City Administrator.
After monthly reports, the council will called Dwight Brandt to speak about the storm sewer grant update from Brandt Engineers and allow for him to take bids.
Changes have been made to the City of Borger’s alcoholic beverage laws.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council approved an ordinance amending the City of Borger Code of Ordinance, Article 4.02, Alcoholic Beverages. The ordinance was introduced by the council at its last regular meeting earlier this month.
The change was prompted by a request from a new business coming to town. City Manager Eddie Edwards said CVS is building a new pharmacy at the intersection of Third and Cedar. It regularly sells beer and wine as part of its in-store inventory.
Officials from Frank Phillips College announced last week that live play-by-plays and stats for every game this season will be made available online through a new technology called GameChanger. Now fans, local media and other team followers can follow the team’s online “GameStream,” even when they can’t be at the field.
