October 19th
On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors performed their annual review for Borger EDC CEO Dan Redd during the board’s October meeting.
The EDC Board gave Redd a positive report, which extended his contract for another year. Redd has served as the EDC CEO for five years and will enter his sixth.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the EDC Board approved entering a contract with Leading EDG to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Borger area.
On Saturday, October 22nd, Frank Phillips College will host “Meet the Plainsmen” for the men’s basketball team starting at 4:30 p.m. at the BCAC.
The men’s basketball team will be there to meet and talk with Plainsmen fans and take part in a inter-squad scrimmage.
Entering the season, the Plainsmen have 15 players on their active roster featuring a good blend of athletic ability and decent size.
The Plainsmen will also visit Gateway Elementary on Friday morning to eat lunch and hang out with students along with handing out pencils and flyers for “Meet the Plainsmen.”
PAMPA-On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs came out strong taking game one in their match against the #14 Pampa Lady Harvesters.
But an upset was not in the cards for the Lady Bulldogs as the Lady Harvesters got the breaks down the stretch to get the win in four games 25-21,17-25, 19-25, 15-25 to stay undefeated in District 1-3A play.
The Lady Bulldogs drop to 1-6 in district play and have two matches left to try secure one of the three district’s playoff spots.
October 18th
Over the weekend, the Borger High School Boys and Girls Golf teams were busy hitting the links in tournament play in Dumas and here in Borger.
The Borger girls hosted a one round triangular tournament at the Phillips Course, drawing1 1 schools from around the Texas Panhandle.
The Borger “Red” team was paired with Hereford and Gruver, where the Lady Bulldogs finished with the top score of the group shooting a 360. Hereford shot a 371 followed by Gruver with a 398.
The new Golden Plains Community Hospital is set to open next week!
Dennis Jack, CEO of Golden Plains Community Hospital, spoke to the Borger Rotary Club recently about the progress of the new facility. The moving of items from the old facility to the new facility will be taking place this week, with most of the moving taking place this Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, a public open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours will be taking place throughout the hospital during those hours.
On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents approved accepting a $25,000 donation from the United Supermarkets Foundation which was presented to the college back on September 30th.
The gift was the second part of $50,000 United Supermarkets awarded FPC to be used towards the renovation of the Biology Lab that was complete this summer.
United Supermarkets presented its first installment of the donation back in October of 2010.
October is full of fun fall events and exciting Halloween festivities throughout the county.

The Spring Creek School Halloween Carnival is to be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. The cafeteria will serve food from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the games and booths will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come in costume if you like!
October 17th
PERRYTON-On Saturday morning, the Borger Lady Bulldogs were facing a must-win situation in their match against the Perryton Rangerettes.
Going into Saturday’s contest, Borger held a 0-5 District 1-3A mark, which included a five-game loss to Perryton in Borger back on September 27th.
Fortunately, the Lady Bulldogs answered the challenge in a big way by taking care of the Rangerettes in a sweep, winning 25-13, 25-20, 25-20.
Before passing an amended animal control ordinance, the City of Borger wants the input of the public.
The Borger City Council will be acting to schedule a public hearing on Nov. 1, 2011, at 7 p.m. to allow public comment on the proposed ordinance.

The West Texas High Marching Band is moving on to area competition! The band received a Division One rating at the UIL Region One Marching Band Contest that took place Saturday at Dick Bivens Stadium in Amarillo. The band will be advancing to the UIL Area Marching Band Contest, scheduled for Oct. 29 at Dick Bivens Stadium.
