Former Borger Bulldogs preparing for upcoming Alumni Game

On Saturday, October 15th former Pampa Harvesters and former Borger Bulldogs will square off at Bulldogs Stadium for the Pampa vs. Borger Alumni Game.
The Bulldogs will feature Borger High School alumni who graduated as recently as this spring to players who graduated in the late 1980s and early 1990s who just have a love for playing the game of football and representing the Borger community.
In preparation for the game, the Borger team has scheduled a “Meet the Alumni” on Thursday evening where the team will workout under the lights of Bulldog Stadium from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

Perryton tops Borger in five games

On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs ended the first round of District 1-3A play with a loss to the Perryton Rangerettes in five games 19-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-27, 6-15.
Perryton snapped a winning streak the Lady Bulldogs enjoyed over the Rangerettes which stretched over the past six years.
Game one of the match was a close back and forth affair until Perryton closed with 5-2 run to pull away for the win,

Lady Comanches defeat Paducah to remain undefeated in District action

The West Texas Lady Comanches volleyball team is on a roll. They took down the Lady Dragons from Paducah in three 25-17, 25-13, and 25-18, to remain a perfect 5-0 in District play. They maintained control in the first two sets, even though they briefly trailed in the first. The second was all WT as they led all the way through. They trailed most of the third, once by as much as six points, but tied the score at 11, 12, 13, and 14, before they fell behind again. After tying the score at 17, they took control and won it.

Bushland beats Sanford Fritch in three

Anybody around the area knows the Bushland Lady Falcons volleyball team is a powerhouse and the Lady Eagles were able to experience it at home Tuesday. Bushland came to Fritch with big hits and great defense. They used every scheme possible in scoring points. Fritch had some chances to turn things around but in game one the Lady Falcons took advantage of ball placing to win 25-12.
In the second game, Fritch started playing better and making things happen. Senior Jacy Judd hit some down balls to keep the Lady Eagles alive. Bushland did what it took and came away to win 25-15.

Jackie “Nay” Walker

Jackie “Nay” Walker, 50, of Fritch, died Saturday October 3, 2011 at Fritch.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 5, 2011, at Fritch Church of Christ with Mr. Richard Kasko officiating. Burial will be in the Peace Garden at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.

Mary Esther Henslee

October 5, 2011

Mary Esther Henslee, 81, died Oct. 2, 2011, in Borger.
Services are pending with Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mary was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Lenapah, Okla., to Milton and Dora Mayo. She married Johnnie Henslee Jan. 17, 1949, in Perryton. Mary was a homemaker, and a longtime resident of Borger.

Barbara Jean Harris

Amarillo – Funeral services for Barbara Jane Harris, 87, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger. Chaplain Jeff Messer, BSA Hospice, will officiate. Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Harris died Sunday in Amarillo.

BHS Homecoming Parade to be held next Thursday

As Borger High School prepares to celebrate its Homecoming festivities for 2011, one of the highlights of this year’s activities will be a homecoming parade next Thursday.
The parade route will line up at 5 p.m. in the parking lot of Cornerstone Christian Church, 10th and Main, and proceed south on Main Street, west on Third Street, and south on McGee towards BHS. It is set to begin at around 6 or 6:30 p.m. that evening.
The parade will end in the Borger High School parking lot, and the pep rally will be held at Tex Hanna Gym shortly after the conclusion of the parade.

Curves promoting breast cancer awareness

Curves of Borger is doing its part to promote breast cancer awareness in fun and unique ways.
For the month of October, Curves is waiving the joining fee for new members and is encouraging the public to participate in a fun and unique contest.
The club’s window currently has a truly unique display. It is pink, with a giant bra made by Curves member Linda Nicholas. In a spirit of fun and also to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness month, Curves is having a bra decorating contest for its members.

HCHD board to approve certificate of completion

With the new Golden Plains Community Hospital set to open, a certificate commemorating the occasion is set to be accepted this evening by the Hutchinson County Hospital District Board of Directors.
The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. this evening in the GPCH executive board room.
A certificate of substantial completion will be accepted and signed during the meeting.
