Joy Stephen

May 16, 2012

Joy Stephen, 74, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away, Monday, May 7, 2012.
Joy LaTrice (McWhorter) Stephen was born Tuesday, July 6, 1937 in Pampa, TX to Fred and Bessie (Gatlin) McWhorter. Joy McWhorter married Truman Royce Stephen on October 22, 1952 in Edmonson, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Truman Royce Stephen; her grandson, Bobby J. Stephen; her sister Geraldine Hancock and her brother, Bobby McWhorter.

It’s National Women’s Health Week at Curves!

Celebrate women’s health at Curves during National Women’s Health Week, which is happening this week, May 13-19.
Curves of Borger is giving a free 30-day membership to any non-member who visits the club during regular hours throughout this week for National Women’s Health Week. Curves also presents the inaugural National Curves Day celebration, which will be Thursday, May 17, 2012.

Borger City Council honors DeWeese, swears in new member

The Borger City Council took time to honor a longtime City of Borger employee and city council member and swear in a new member at its regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Leon DeWeese was honored for his longtime service to the City of Borger. He came to work for the city at the age of 16 in 1959. He worked in several capacities for the city, including as a lifeguard, health inspector, Director of Municipal Services, Director of Parks and Recreation, and Municipal Court Judge. He retired from the City of Borger in August of 2003.

Five West Texas High Lady Comanches softball players were named to the District 6-1A All-District softball teams.
The Lady Comanches posted a 16-11 record and making the 1A Bi-District playoff round.

Laverne Coiner, 92, of Borger, passed away, Monday, May 14, 2012.
Laverne Elizabeth (Ithaca) Coiner was born February 5, 1920 in Denver, Co to George and Minnie (Pearson) Ithaca. She was a homemaker. Laverne was a member of the Rebecca’s and Royal Neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Coiner; two sisters, Jean Mackey and Doris Stapp; and one brother George Ithaca Jr.

BHS candidates for graduation approved

Candidates for the Borger High School Graduating Class of 2012 have officially been approved.
The final list was approved by the Borger ISD board of trustees at its regular meeting Tuesday. The list is as follows:

RFL teams holding fundraisers

With Relay For Life of Hutchinson County just around the corner, team members are busy with a variety of fundraising projects and events.
Wells Fargo Bank, located at 503 North Deahl in Borger will host a hamburger cookout on Friday, May 18. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., enjoy a hot, juicy, delicious hamburger or cheeseburger and a drink for only $5.
On Saturday, May 19, Bread Of Life Ministries Kingdom Racers will have a barbeque fundraiser at the Borger Wal-Mart from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Nine individuals charged in drug ring

May 14, 2012

DEA, FBI and panhandle law enforcement agencies assisted in a drug bust that occurred at several homes and businesses around the area on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
Nine citizens from Dumas and Borger were charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance after a investigation conducted from June 2010-May 2012.
